Hydrangea arborescens Hayes Starbust
Size: C10
Plant age: 2-3 y.
Description
This is the world's first tree hydrangea variety with double flowers. The shrub's height ranges from 0.8 to 1.2 meters, and its diameter is between 0.7 and 0.9 meters. The inflorescences are 15–20 cm in diameter. The flowers, adorned with sharply pointed sepals, resemble small white stars. The large, dome-shaped, irregularly formed clusters consist entirely of sterile, dazzling white flowers. The leaves have a slight velvety texture. The crown is wide-spreading, and its thin, graceful branches may need support during the blooming season. It flowers extensively from June to September.
Growing Features
Prefers sunny to semi-shaded areas. Does not tolerate waterlogging and loses decorative appeal in the shade. Winter mulching and light covering are recommended. It's winter-hardy, enduring temperatures down to –30 °C.
Usage
Best used in the foreground of a garden to closely admire the graceful, double flowers.
