Perennial deciduous vine. In the first 1–2 years after planting, it grows slowly, then the growth accelerates to 0.7–1 m per season. It climbs, can either spread along the ground or twine around any support, producing many lateral shoots with aerial roots. The length of a mature plant is up to 20 m. Leaves are dark green, broad, with serrated edges, and long petioles.
