Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Nana Gracilis’ is an evergreen, slow-growing dwarf tree. Young plants are rounded or conical in shape. Mature trees reach 150–200 cm in height and 100–120 cm in width. Annual growth is about 3 cm. The foliage is scale-like, thick, tightly pressed to the branches, dark green, glossy, and poisonous.
