(Mahonia aquifolium) is an undemanding evergreen shrub growing up to 1–1.5 m tall, with leathery, glossy leaves that change color from dark green in summer to bronze-red in autumn. In spring (April–May) it flowers abundantly with fragrant yellow blossoms, and by autumn edible dark blue berries with a bluish bloom ripen.
