Vitis vinifera Arkadia
Size: C2
Plant age: 3 y.
Grape ‘Arcadia’ is an extra-early table grape variety with large amber-yellow berries, fleshy pulp, and a light muscat aroma. It is highly valued for its very high yield, good market qualities, and excellent transportability. At the same time, it requires protection against powdery mildew (oidium) and crop regulation to maintain flavour and proper ripening time. The variety also has good frost resistance down to –22 °C.
Main characteristics:
Ripening period: extra-early (110–125 days), early August in southern regions.
Clusters: very large, cylindro-conical, medium density, weighing 500–700 g (up to 2 kg).
Berries: large (7–15 g), oval or heart-shaped, white to yellowish with a waxy coating.
Flesh: fleshy and juicy, harmonious taste, with a light muscat aroma at full ripeness.
Vines: vigorous growth, powerful root system.
Flower: bisexual (self-pollinating).
Advantages:
Very high yield – one of the most productive varieties.
Excellent market quality – attractive appearance and good transportability.
Good winter hardiness – tolerates frost down to –22 °C; winter protection is recommended in northern regions.
Good rooting ability – cuttings root very well.
Disadvantages and care requirements:
Disease resistance is moderate – increased resistance to downy mildew, but protection against powdery mildew (oidium) is required.
Tendency to overcropping – crop regulation is necessary to avoid delayed ripening and reduced flavour.
Berry cracking – berries may crack with fluctuations in soil moisture.
Use – not recommended for wine production due to relatively low sugar content and acidity.
