Description: Jostaberry is an extraordinary hybrid of blackcurrant and gooseberry. It combines the vigorous growth and vitamin-rich berries of the currant with the larger fruit size of the gooseberry, while being completely thornless. The berries are dark purple to black, twice the size of a standard blackcurrant, with a unique sweet-tangy flavor and a hint of nutmeg. The plant is highly resistant to common diseases such as American gooseberry mildew and big bud gall mite. It forms a large, upright shrub that is both productive and ornamental. Jostaberry thrives in sunny locations with fertile, moist, and well-drained soil. Perfect for fresh eating, jams, and juices.
