Description:

Red-flowering currant (Ribes sanguineum) is an ornamental, fast-growing shrub reaching up to 4 m in height, with upright reddish-brown shoots, valued for its abundant flowering in May with bright red or pink clusters. The leaves are three- to five-lobed, dark green, with a whitish felted underside and a strong fragrance. The berries are blue-black, covered with a bluish bloom, ripen in August, are edible but rather bland. It grows well in sunny and partially shaded locations, preferring well-drained soil.
