Fragaria x ananassa Kareoko
Size: P-9
Plant age: 0+ y.
Description: Strawberry ‘Kareoko’ is a new and unique Japanese variety distinguished by exceptionally high yield, excellent market quality, and outstanding taste. It is a mid-late ripening cultivar that has only recently appeared in gardens, yet has already made a strong impression.
The plant forms a large, tall bush with dense green foliage and an abundance of strong flower stalks. Uniform, bouquet-type flowering ensures good pollination, resulting in consistently high yields of evenly sized berries. Runner production is moderate—sufficient for propagation without complicating plant care. The main harvest period is compact, as fruit set on the flower stalks develops simultaneously. The berries are large, beautifully round to broad teardrop-shaped, deep red, and glossy. The flesh is juicy, of medium firmness, with an exquisite sweet flavor and a fragrant wild strawberry aroma. This variety is easy to grow, resistant to root rots, and performs well even on heavy soils. Strawberry ‘Kareoko’ can rightfully be considered one of the best among mid-season varieties.
