Common lilac 'Beauty of Moscow' (Syringa vulgaris 'Krasavitsa Moskvy'), Leonid Kolesnikov, 1947. A variety of rare beauty, recognized by UNESCO as a world breeding masterpiece. The shrub is 2.5–3 m tall, spreading in habit. Buds are large, spherical, pinkish-lilac. Flowers are pinkish-white with a pearlescent hue, gradually turning pearly white. Double flowers up to 2.5 cm in diameter, composed of 2–3 corollas, resembling miniature roses when half-opened. Inflorescences are large, up to 25 cm long, dense, and have a magnificent fragrance. Blooms mid-season. Sun-loving, tolerates light shade. Prefers fertile, loose, well-drained, and moderately moist soil. Does not tolerate standing water or high groundwater levels. Recommended for solitary and group plantings, decorative arrangements, and hedges. Excellent for cut flowers.
